The announcement
In its September 3 PlayStation Blog post, Square Enix announced April 8, 2027 as the PS5 release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The publisher describes it as the concluding entry in the Remake series after Remake and Rebirth.
The announcement introduces exploration aboard the Highwind, new functions for Piko and a FITS customization system with four specializations: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner. It also describes switching party members during exploration and choosing characters for certain quests. These are announced features, not systems independently tested by Coreqm.
The design question behind a larger world
Coreqm analysis: An airship can change more than travel speed. When players can cross large distances quickly, the world needs meaningful destinations and readable reasons to return to them. Otherwise, freedom can become a menu of disconnected stops.
A strong final chapter also has an unusual pacing problem. It needs to resolve existing character arcs while making exploration worthwhile for people who want to delay the ending. More traversable space does not automatically resolve that tension. Quest structure, conversation placement and the timing of major revelations will be more revealing than map dimensions alone.
Combat customization worth watching
New character specializations raise the possibility of more expressive party building. The question for future hands-on coverage is whether the choices create useful tradeoffs. If one configuration solves nearly every encounter, a long option list contributes less than it first appears.
A meaningful preview would compare the same encounter with different party roles and explain what changed: resource management, positioning, defensive options or the rhythm of switching characters. That would tell returning players more than a catalogue of animation effects.
Preparing for the finale
The practical starting point is the confirmed PS5 date and the official feature description. Buyers comparing editions should distinguish the base adventure from optional extras and future content. Players catching up on earlier entries can use the date as a planning reference without assuming how many hours the conclusion will require.
The next evidence to watch is sustained exploration and combat footage with enough continuity to show how these new systems connect. A finale succeeds when its mechanics reinforce its story, and that relationship cannot be judged from feature counts alone.
