Why access is only the beginning

A small pilot can establish whether an assistant saves time on literature organization, data cleaning or repetitive programming. The pilot should also record where it creates extra checking work. That helps distinguish a memorable demonstration from a reliable improvement.
Designing an auditable pilot
Choose a task with a known reference result and keep the original data unchanged. Record the code that produced every table or figure. If the model proposes an interpretation, connect it to the calculation or source that supports it.
The most valuable comparison is often between complete workflows. Time spent correcting output belongs in the total, as does the effort needed to explain the result to another researcher. Fast generation can still be useful, but it should not hide slow verification.
Planning beyond the initial offer
Temporary support should have a transition plan. Teams can estimate continuing costs from observed use and decide which workflows deserve sustained funding. They can also identify tasks that remain practical without the same subscription level.
The announcement broadens a route into AI-assisted research. Its scientific value will depend on what researchers can reproduce and share after using that access, rather than on the number of prompts generated during a subsidized period.
